This 5-day safari adventure takes you through some of Kenya’s most iconic wildlife destinations. From the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro.
Looming over Amboseli, to the tranquil waters of Lake Naivasha and the dramatic landscapes of Lake Nakuru, finishing with the breathtaking savannahs of the Masai Mara, this itinerary offers a well-rounded wildlife experience.
Day 1: Lake Naivasha (1 Night)
Arrival at Lake Naivasha: Arrive at Lake Naivasha in the late morning or early afternoon after a scenic drive from Nairobi. Check into your lodge or lakeside camp, such as Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge or similar.
Boat Ride on Lake Naivasha: Take a relaxing boat ride on Lake Naivasha. Glide across the calm waters while spotting hippos, kingfishers, pelicans, and the iconic African fish eagle. The boat ride provides a serene, up-close view of the lake’s abundant birdlife and aquatic wildlife.
Crescent Island Walking Safari: After the boat ride, head to Crescent Island for a guided walking safari. The island is predator-free, so you can walk among grazing zebras, giraffes, and antelopes. This unique experience allows you to be close to the wildlife without the need for a vehicle.
Evening Relaxation: Return to your lodge in the evening, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful sunset views over the lake. Have a leisurely dinner as you prepare for the next day’s journey to the Masai Mara.
Day 2-4: Masai Mara (3 Nights)
Day 2: Arrival and Afternoon Game Drive
Drive to the Masai Mara: After breakfast, depart Lake Naivasha and head to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Arrive by mid-day and check into your luxury camp or lodge, such as Mara Serena Safari Lodge, Ashnil Mara Camp, or similar
Afternoon Game Drive: Start your first game drive in the afternoon. Explore the savannahs and woodlands of the Mara in search of lions, elephants, zebras, and giraffes. The vast plains provide spectacular views and are teeming with wildlife.
Evening at the Lodge: After the game drive, return to your lodge for dinner. Enjoy the sounds of the African bush as you relax under the stars.
Day 3: Full-Day Game Drives in the Mara
Morning and Afternoon Game Drives: Spend the day on exciting morning and afternoon game drives. The Masai Mara is famous for its large predator population, so you may spot lions, cheetahs, and leopards hunting in the early morning or late afternoon.
Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari: For an unforgettable experience, take an early morning hot air balloon ride over the Mara. The balloon safari offers a bird’s-eye view of the animals as they roam the plains, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush.
Cultural Visit to Maasai Village: After your morning game drive or between safaris, visit a traditional Maasai village. Learn about the Maasai culture, their way of life, and enjoy traditional dances and music.
Day 4: Explore the Mara Triangle or Great Migration Sighting
Morning Game Drive: Embark on an early morning game drive to explore the Mara Triangle, a lesser-known area of the reserve with fewer vehicles and abundant wildlife. This area offers scenic views of the Mara River, where you may see crocodiles and hippos.
Great Migration (Seasonal): If you’re visiting between July and October, you may witness the Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest and zebras cross the Mara River in search of fresh grazing lands. Watching the river crossings, filled with dramatic predator-prey interactions, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Sundowner in the Mara: End the day with a sundowner—enjoy a drink as you watch the sunset over the savannah, a perfect end to your day.
Day 5: Departure to Nairobi
Morning Departure from Nakuru: After breakfast, head to Lake Naivasha.
Morning Game Drive: Enjoy a final early morning game drive through the Mara. Take in the last sightings of the wildlife before heading back to your lodge for breakfast.
Return to Nairobi: After breakfast, check out and depart for Nairobi. Depending on your schedule, you can opt for a leisurely drive back or catch a short flight from the Masai Mara to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport, arriving in the afternoon.
