Tsavo West National Park is one of Kenya’s largest and most diverse national parks, known for its dramatic landscapes, rich wildlife, and volcanic features. Located about 240 kilometers from Nairobi.
Tsavo West offers an adventurous escape into nature, where visitors can explore lava flows, savannah plains, and the iconic Mzima Springs—a series of natural springs teeming with hippos and crocodiles. The park is also home to the Big Five, making it a perfect destination for game viewing.
Day 1
Arrival and Check-In: Arrive at Tsavo West and check into your lodge or campsite. Popular lodges include Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge or similar, both offering spectacular views and top-notch amenities.
Mzima Springs: Begin your exploration with a visit to Mzima Springs, where you can walk along a nature trail that leads to an underwater viewing chamber. Watch hippos, crocodiles, and fish in the crystal-clear waters of the springs.
Game Drive (Afternoon): Head out on an afternoon game drive through Tsavo West’s rich terrain. You’ll have the chance to see elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, and various antelope species. Keep an eye out for the famous red elephants—they get their color from the reddish soil in the area.
Shetani Lava Flow: Stop by the Shetani Lava Flow, a massive black lava field formed from volcanic eruptions centuries ago. The vast expanse of lava rock offers a unique landscape and interesting geology.
Dinner at the Lodge: After your game drive, return to your lodge for a relaxing dinner under the stars. Many lodges in Tsavo West offer open-air dining experiences, allowing you to soak in the beauty of the African night sky.
